Pupils from 3rd, 4th and 5th class visited the museum in Clonmel after their swimming lessons. They used the Art and Craft Room and also got a tour of the museum.
Thanks so much to all of the pupils and families for their generous contributions to our Christmas Jumper Fundraiser. We raised a staggering €263 for Focus Ireland. Wishing you all a very happy Christmas and New Year! Since 2010, the Junior Entrepreneur Programme (JEP) has given more than 40,000 primary school pupils in Ireland the opportunity to experience practical, real-life business learning as part of their primary school curriculum. Under the guidance of Miss Dunne, and with the advice and inspiration of local entrepreneurs, Sixth Class are participating for the first time this year in the Junior Entrepreneur Programme. To begin, the children discussed the meaning of the word 'entrepreneur' and learned about entrepreneurship. We then made a list of all of our local entrepreneurs in Drangan. The children then wrote an individual list of ideas for the J.E.P. Following this, the children, in groups of four to five, discussed their combined ideas, and after a lot of hard work and discussion, they managed to agree on one group idea! The children then agreed on their market, created their advertisement, designed and created their sample product, and prepared their questions and answers in preparation for "Dragons' Den" on 14/12/19. We were very lucky to have the business expertise and advice of Mr. Aidan Clancy from Clancy Construction, Drangan to take part in our Dragons' Den day with Mr. Robinson (Principal) and Mrs. Hayes (S.E.T). Following very well prepared presentations, the groups were neck and neck!! After what seemed like a long time, the Dragons eventually agreed on one recommended product for our class to create and sell as part of our J.E.P! The recommended product was "Sweets'n'Treats". Following the Christmas holidays, the children will turn this idea into reality over a 12-16 week period! This is where the hard work begins - researching what customers want, working out their costs and how much to charge for it. The children will identify their strengths and weaknesses in relation to finance, marketing, design and production, sales and storytelling. Children can invest a token amount of money with a view to getting it back with profit, to understand the real impact of risk and reward. The J.E.P culminates with the submission of our class folder in March 2019, followed by a school showcase day and a larger scale showcase in the R.D.S, Dublin in May 2019. The fun is just beginning!! Many thanks to our Parent's Association, parents and pupils for arranging and participating in the NCBI clothing collection. We collected 77 bags and raised €308 from the collection. Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir!
Thanks so much to our Parent's Association who produced the School Cookbook in time for Christmas. We really appreciate your continued support and commitment to our school. Thanks also to all of the children and families who sent in their recipes. Copies of the School Cookbook are available locally in Halloran's Shop, Maureen's Hair Salon, Meehan's Shop and in school. Here are some photographs from the rehearsal and performance from our Nativity drama 'This Way to Bethlehem'. Well done to all of the boys and girls who worked so hard and performed so well. A big thank you to Mrs. Sheehan for all her hard work also. Our 3rd and 4th class children had a guest speaker today from Clean Ireland Recycling. They were involved in a one hour workshop on waste and recycling. Pupils learned about the benefits/importance of recycling and waste segregation. The children put a fantastic effort into their Native American projects and the presentation of their work was excellent. |
